PROJECT CARE – San Marcos Senior Center
Did you know there are services FREE to Seniors in the San Marcos, California area through the San Marcos Senior Center? Check this out:
1. HOW ARE YOU – A daily telephone call is made to individuals who have signed up for this service. A computer automatically makes the calls at a regularly scheduled time selected by the participant. If the call goes unanswered, volunteers will check to see if the individual is okay.
2. VIAL OF LIFE – Older adults and the disabled who sign up for this program are given a small magnetic plastic container to put on their refrigerator door. This container holds specific information on the individual’s medical history, medication and other health-related conditions. Should the paramedics be called in an emergency situation, they will use the information in the vial to save time in providing necessary medical assistance. The information consists of medications, diagnoses, health care and advanced directives.
3. MINOR HOME REPAIRS – Volunteers and local business groups are recruited to assist in making minor home repairs for qualified senior homeowners. Many of the repairs are related to basic health and safety needs such as stairs, handrails, installing grab bars and door locks. Includes grab bars in the bath and toilet areas free of charge.

4. FRIENDLY VISITS – A volunteer spends time with a senior once or twice per week. Volunteer might assist the senior with a chose (reading, preparing meals, writing bills), or just spend some friendly time with the senior citizen.
